Property Taxes & Assessment

Only local and parish governments levy property taxes in Louisiana. There is no state property tax.  Assessors are required by law to assess improvements of industrial property at 15% of market value; land is assessed at 10%; and residential property is assessed at 10% of the fair market value.  In addition, Louisiana offers a homestead exemption on the first $75,000 of the value of a person’s primary residence.
